Description
Appraise automobile or other vehicle damage to determine cost of repair for insurance claim settlement and seek agreement with automotive repair shop on cost of repair. Prepare insurance forms to indicate repair cost or cost estimates and recommendations.
Experience
A minimum of two to four years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed for these occupations. For example, an accountant must complete four years of college and work for several years in accounting to be considered qualified.
Education

- Estimates parts and labor to repair damage, using standard automotive labor and parts/cost manuals and knowledge of automotive repair.

- Arranges to have damage appraised by another appraiser to resolve disagreement with shop on repair cost.
- Determines salvage value on total-loss vehicle.
- Reviews repair/cost estimates with automobile-repair shop to secure agreement on cost of repairs.
- Examines damaged vehicle to determine extent of structural, body, mechanical, electrical, or interior damage.
