Description
Apply electrical theory and related knowledge to test and modify developmental or operational electrical machinery and electrical control equipment and circuitry in industrial or commercial plants and laboratories. Usually work under direction of engineering staff.
Experience
A minimum of two to four years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed for these occupations. For example, an accountant must complete four years of college and work for several years in accounting to be considered qualified.
Education
Most of these occupations require a four-year bachelor's degree, but some do not.
Training
Employees in these occupations usually need several years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training.
Tasks
- Sets up and operates test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under simulated operating conditions.
- Plans method and sequence of operations for testing and developing experimental electronic and electrical equipment.
- Modifies electrical prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations.
- Assembles electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles, using hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Draws diagrams and writes engineering specifications to clarify design details and functional criteria of experimental electronics units.
- Maintains and repairs testing equipment.
- Collaborates with electrical engineer and other personnel to solve developmental problems.
- Analyzes and interprets test information.
