Description
Provide personal services to ensure the safety and comfort of airline passengers during flight. Greet passengers, verify tickets, explain use of safety equipment, and serve food or beverages.
Experience
Some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience may be helpful in these occupations, but usually is not needed. For example, a drywall installer might benefit from experience installing drywall, but an inexperienced person could still learn to be an installer with little difficulty.
Education
These occupations usually require a high school diploma and may require some vocational training or job-related course work. In some cases, an associate's or bachelor's degree could be needed.
Training
Employees in these occupations need anywhere from a few months to one year of working with experienced employees.
Tasks
- Greets passengers, verifies tickets, records destinations, and directs passengers to assigned seats.
- Collects money for meals and beverages.
- Administers first aid to passengers in distress, when needed.
- Prepares reports showing place of departure and destination, passenger ticket numbers, meal and beverages inventories, and lost and found articles.
- Explains use of safety equipment to passengers.
- Serves prepared meals and beverages.
- Assists passengers to store carry-on luggage in overhead, garment, or under-seat storage.
- Walks aisle of plane to verify that passengers have complied with federal regulations prior to take off.
