Description
Assemble or repair oil field equipment using hand and power tools. Perform other tasks as needed.
Experience
Some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience may be helpful in these occupations, but usually is not needed. For example, a drywall installer might benefit from experience installing drywall, but an inexperienced person could still learn to be an installer with little difficulty.
Education
These occupations usually require a high school diploma and may require some vocational training or job-related course work. In some cases, an associate's or bachelor's degree could be needed.
Training

Tasks
- Connects tanks and flow lines, using wrenches.
- Digs holes, sets forms, and mixes and pours concrete into forms to make foundations for wood or steel derricks.
- Bolts or nails together wood or steel framework to erect derrick.
- Dismantles and assembles boilers and steam engine parts, using hand tools and power tools.
- Unscrews or tightens pipe, casing, tubing, and pump rods, using hand and power wrenches and tongs.
- Bolts together pump and engine parts.
