Description
Operate or tend nonelectrolytic plating or coating machines, such as metal-spraying machines and vacuum metalizing machines, to coat metal or plastic products or parts with metal.
Experience
No previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed for these occupations. For example, a person can become a general office clerk even if he/she has never worked in an office before.
Education

Tasks
- Cuts metal or other materials, using shears or band saw.
- Solders equipment and visually examines for completeness.
- Sprays coating in specified pattern according to instructions and inspects area for defects, such as air bubbles or uneven coverage.
- Fills machine receptacle with coating material or solution.
- Observes gauges and adjusts controls of machine to regulate functions, such as speed and temperature, according to specifications.
- Immerses workpieces in coating solution for specified time.
- Cleans and maintains equipment, using water hose and scraper.
- Maintains production records.
- Cleans workpieces, using wire brush.
- Mixes coating material or solution according to formula, or uses premixed solutions.
- Positions and feeds materials on plate into machine, manually or automatically, for processing.
- Places materials on racks and transfers to oven to dry for a specified period of time.
- Replaces worn parts and adjusts equipment components, using hand tools.
- Removes excess material or impurities from objects, using air hose or grinding machine.
- Measures or weighs materials, using ruler, calculator, and scale.
- Presses or turns controls to activate and set equipment operation according to specifications.
- Positions containers to receive parts and loads or unloads materials in containers, using dolly or hand truck.
