Application Instructions
Fill out the online application for admission. When you are finished, click the
SUBMIT button on the left column of any application screen. Print and sign the application agreement statement that appears after you submit the application, and return it with the nonrefundable $50 application fee to Holy Names University at the address to the right.

Undergraduate (Includes traditional undergraduate programs, Weekend College, ex.cel Program, and certification programs)
Freshman: $50
Transfer: $50
International (Must be paid in addition to undergraduate application fee)

College credential evaluation fee: $190
Instructions for Applying to Undergraduate Programs
- Request an official transcript from your high school showing at least six semesters. Have it sent directly to the Division of Enrollment Services.
- For transfer applicants, request official transcripts from your high school and all colleges and universities attended. A high school transcript is not required if you have more than 30 transferable semester units (45 quarter units).
- Take the SAT or ACT test and be sure to include Holy Names University as a recipient of the scores (SAT code is 4059 and ACT code is 0230).
- Ask a teacher, counselor, or employer who knows you personally and academically to write a recommendation for you and return it directly to the Division of Enrollment Services.
- If you are applying to the Three-Year Degree Program, include with your application agreement statement a statement regarding what Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate examinations you have taken or expect to take.
- Priority application deadlines for freshman are August 1 for the fall semester, November 1 for the winter trimester, and December 1 for the winter semester.
- All applicants are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the March 2 priority deadline. In addition, California residents should submit a GPA verification form to the California Student Aid Commission by March 2, the deadline for Cal Grant eligibility. The HNU financial aid code is 001183.
Applicants to the
Weekend College, ex.cel Program, and the
Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Registered Nurses should complete the following requirements:
- Submit a professional résumé with your application agreement statement.
- Request official transcripts from all colleges/universities previously attended.
- Request a professional recommendation from a person who knows you in a professional capacity and ask that person to send this recommendation directly to the Division of Enrollment Services.
- For applicants to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program, please submit a statement of purpose and a copy of your RN license with your application agreement statement.
Additional Requirements for International Applicants
International students must submit the following documentation (in addition to the application agreement statement and specific program requirements listed below). Please note: candidates for admission cannot be evaluated until all required documents have been received and financial aid applications cannot be processed until a candidate has been fully accepted.
International applicants must pay a high school credential evaluation fee of $75 and a college credential evaluation fee of $190 (if you have taken college level courses). Please note: These fees are one-time charges (not per-document charges) to be paid in addition to application fees listed above.
- Confirmation of financial resources, affidavit of financial support, and bank statement
- English proficiency. TOEFL 163 computer-based, 490 paper-based; ELS Level 107; one semester of freshman composition with grade of B or higher; ACT or SAT scores
- International credentials are evaluated according to the published guidelines and placement recommendations of Projects in International Education Research (PIER), the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (AACRAO), and NAFSA Association of International Educators.
- Applicants already in the United States must submit a copy of their current visa.
