Santa Barbara City College is well known as one of the leading community colleges in the nation. The college has a national reputation for it's excellent general education transfer curriculum and transfer agreements with prominent four-year universities, diverse Associate Degree programs and high tech certificate job training programs.
Located in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, the college was founded in 1909 on the "Riviera" area of the Santa Barbara foothills as Santa Barbara State College. The college was relocated to its current oceanside location in 1929. The site was dedicated as Santa Barbara City college in 1946 and became a District in 1965. Over 13,000 credit students each term and 36,000 non-credit students annually from across the United States and over 50 countries experience a safe, personal caring environment. Santa Barbara is a state funded, open enrollment institution. All credit classes are offered to anyone age 18 and over, who wishes to obtain a higher education.
The campus is located on the bluffs overlooking the waters and beaches of the Pacific Ocean providing students with a 180 degree view of the Santa Ynez mountains, city and harbor. Located just 150 miles from LA and 250 miles from San Francisco, Santa Barbara is a tourist and education destination and playground for the entire world, featuring an array of activities for the entire family, year-round. Views from the campus include the Channel Islands and miles of coastline. The mean air temperature is 70 degrees. California residents pay only $18 per unit for courses. |

Santa Barbara City College boasts one of the highest annual transfer rates to the University of California and has guaranteed transfer agreements to many four-year colleges and universities. The college's Honors program and honors society attracts top student scholars from throughout the state. Over 75 courses are offered over the internet. Semester and summer study abroad programs take students to China, Cambridge, England, Florence- Italy, London - England, Mexico, Paris - France and Spain. Over 500 international students annually choose Santa Barbara City College to earn their Associate Degree because of its diverse academic programs, picturesque setting and strong international student support program.
The campus houses the high-tech South Coast Digital Arts Center providing students with state-of-the-art training in multi-media arts, digital design and pre- and post- video production. The college offers a wide range of programs leading to industry certification in the application of products produced by Microsoft, Novel, Maya, CISCO Systems, Oracle and Lucent Technologies. Unique programs offered by the college include Hotel, Restaurant and Culinary, Marine Diving Technologies, Computer Networking, Engineering and Electronics, internships and work experience opportunities related to students' areas of interest, and career planning, job preparation and placement services provided by the Career Advancement Center. |
