CAMPUS SUMMARY
Southern Connecticut State University's 168-acre campus consists of a variety of buildings and recreation and learning centers. Southern is located in New Haven, a historic seaside city found by English Puritans in 1637. A center of culture and education, New Haven has roots that go deep into New England history and education. It's just 90 minutes from NYC and fewer than 3 hours from Boston. Southern students take advantage of New Haven's wealth of attractions. Besides movies restaurants, clubs and concerts, students enjoy world-famous theaters like the Yale Repertory, Shubert and Long Wharf, museums of art and natural history, and a whole range of sporting and seaside activities, from cruises on Long Island Sound to picnics at Lighthouse Point.

SCSU is a fully accredited institution of higher education, is authorized by the CT General Assembly to offer courses and programs leading to bachelor's and master's degrees in the arts and sciences and in various professional fields. Southern also offers a sixth year diploma in several special areas. Southern's philosophy of education grows out of four related functions: liberal education, professional education, graduate study and research, and public service.
