CAMPUS SUMMARY
Established in 1870 as a liberal arts college, Canisius College is one of the twenty-eight colleges and universities in the United States that carry on the four-centuries-old Jesuit tradition of higher education. Canisius comprises the College of Arts & Sciences, the Richard J. Wehle School of Business, and the School of Education and Human Services. Of the 4,814 students, 3,349 are enrolled as undergraduates. The student body is divided almost equally between men and women. Canisius College is located in Buffalo, New York State’s second-largest city. The metropolitan area of just over 1.4 million people offers varied athletic, cultural and entertainment facilities. For sports fans, there are the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League, the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League, and the Buffalo Bisons (AAA baseball) of the American Association. For those interested in absorbing culture, the internationally known Albright-Knox Art Gallery holds one of the finest collections of nineteenth- and twentieth-century American and European works of art. The city is home to the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Artpark, a 200-acre park, offers professional and visual arts programs in an open-air environment.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
To earn a bachelor’s degree from Canisius College, students must complete forty courses and a minimum of 120 credit hours. Within each curriculum, the courses are distributed into three areas: the core curriculum, major field requirements, and free electives. In keeping with its liberal arts ideals and objectives, the college requires that students complete a rounded program of humanistic studies embracing literature, the physical and social sciences, oral and written communication, philosophy, history, religious studies, and language.

An honors program is available for qualified students. The program includes rigorous and intensive exploration of the arts and sciences in an enriched curriculum with close faculty supervision and small classes.
