CAMPUS SUMMARY
SUNY Empire State College was founded in 1971 to serve students who need a flexible alternative to traditional campus based higher education. Empire State College, a comprehensive arts and sciences college within the State University of New York, is an international leader in providing innovative educational opportunities for adult learners. The college programs are delivered in a way that is sensitive and responsive to the wide range of needs and purposes of adult students. Students design educational programs for their specific backgrounds, learning styles and goals. The college has centers and units in more than 45 locations to conveniently serve students near their employment or home. The Center for Distance Learning serves students across the state and around the world through print-based and computer-mediated educational programming. Empire State College pioneered student-centered educational programs that serve adult learners with multiple life roles and responsibilities. In their educational programs, students with the guidance and support of a faculty mentor, take part in every aspect of planning their degree program. Through this challenging program students develop not only the skills and knowledge needed to advance careers and enhance their lives, but also the essential capacity for self-directed learning to become lifelong learners.
