CAMPUS SUMMARY
AIC was founded in 1885, originally for the education of new immigrants to the United States. As immigration patterns changed, the college began to enroll a larger percentage of domestic students. Presently, the highest percentage of students enrolled are from the northeast region of the U.S. but there remains a commitment to providing a globalized learning environment.

The college is coeducational, independent, and non-sectarian situated in an urban environment. The primary function according to the Mission Statement is the teaching and learning process and the curriculum is designed to serve that function. The education of each student is rooted in the liberal arts with an emphasis on both career preparation and preparation for graduate or professional study.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Academically, AIC offers majors in more than three dozen different areas through the Schools of Arts and Sciences; Business Administration; Psychology and Education; and Health Sciences. Among the most popular majors are Accounting, Management, Education, Criminal Justice, Communications, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy.

Approximately 80% of AIC students participate in some sort of off-campus experiential learning program such as an internship, clinical experience, practicum or student teaching. Faculty is student-centered and care most about the success of each student. A variety of support programs are available ranging from tutorial services and a Writing Center to the nationally recognized Supportive Learning Services Program for Learning Disabled Students.
