CAMPUS SUMMARY
Hobart and William Smith are coordinate, liberal arts colleges (Hobart for men - 1822; William Smith for women - 1908). All classes are coed, there is one faculty, one curriculum, one president, one campus. However, each college grants its own degree, maintains its own student government, and has its own dean and athletic programs. In short, it offers the advantages of both coed and single-sex schools with a remarkable degree of gender equity.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
For over fifty years, the curriculum at Hobart and William Smith has featured interdisciplinary learning at its core. In addition, the colleges encourage all students to prepare for world citizenship by participating in one of our many off-campus programs spanning six continents and nearly 30 locales. The colleges are ranked in the top 10 nationally on the percentage of students who study abroad (65%). Alongside ongoing efforts to create off-campus programs is an exciting collaborative internship program that extends the colleges' effort to provide opportunities for students to utilize their classroom experience in the workplace. Other opportunities are also available through an extensive program of community service. Many courses are designed to include a service-learning component. Faculty commit a considerable amount of time to providing individualized instruction through independent studies, individual majors, directing honors theses and directing the many off-campus programs, as mentioned above.
