CAMPUS SUMMARY

How do you know when a college is right for you? It's not a matter of which one is biggest, or
smallest, or has the most ivy-covered walls. It's a feeling you get when you're there. The feeling
that this is where you belong. Penn State's Mont Alto Campus may feel right for you. It is part
of a major research university - with national recognition, a wide range of degree programs,
the chance to work with renowned faculty - on a small campus where you are part of a close-knit family... where professors know their students by name... when you can form friendships to last a lifetime.

As a first-year student, you may choose from among 20 Penn State campuses to start your education. Many students (about 60 percent) spend their first two years at one campus, then move to another location to finish their degrees. Where you finish depends on your major and the type of campus you prefer.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Academically talented students enrolled at Penn State Mont Alto may participate in either of two honors programs.

1. Exceptionally talented students who have passed through a rigorous screening process may be invited to become Schreyer Scholar as part
of the Schreyer Honors College. While enrolled at Mont Alto, Schreyer Scholars are members of the Honors Program at the campus.

2. An additional number of excellent students are invited to become members of the Commonwealth College Honors Program. The Commonwealth College Honors Program is for academically talented
students who want courses that are different from the regular classroom experience. It is a chance for these students to go into greater depth in
given subjects, doing not more work, but a different kind of work.

College in High School Program:

Penn State now offers high school students the opportunity to take college courses at a nearly 50 percent tuition reduction. This enables students to get a real head start on their college careers by earning college credits while still in high school. Students participating in this program may choose from a variety of courses offered at the campus.

High school students taking advantage of this exciting opportunity may earn an additional $1,000 scholarship for their first year in college by completing three courses (9 credits) and maintaining a 3.0 (B) grade point average. This additional scholarship would apply to any student enrolling for his/her freshman year at Penn State Mont Alto.

Project Vision:

Project Vision is conducted at the Mont Alto under the guidance and with support from The Center for Learning and Academic Technologies
(C-LAT) located at University Park.

Project Vision combines active, project-based learning and Internet technologies to provide a high-quality university experience to both residential and distance students. Vision students use computers and electronic
communications to work on collaborative projects and to consult with their instructors. Faculty report having more and better interactions with their Vision students than was possible with traditional lecture courses. By reaching out
to students with high quality learning opportunities we are transforming education for the 21st Century with anytime, anywhere education.

First Year Seminar:

This is a required course designed to ease the transition from high school to college. The small size of the seminars allows for more discussion in class, interaction with the professor, and attention to writing skills. In addition to fulfilling the University’s first year seminar requirement, each three-credit seminar fulfills a general education requirement in either the humanities or social and behavioral sciences.
