CAMPUS SUMMARY
Polytechnic University, the nation’s second oldest private engineering university, was founded in 1854 in Brooklyn, New York. It is New York metropolitan area’s preeminent educational resource in science, technology, and research. It is a private, co-educational institution with three campuses. Its main campus is located in downtown Brooklyn at MetroTech Center, and is one of the largest urban university-corporate parks in the world, and the largest in the United States. It is accessible from all parts of New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The second campus is located on 25 acres in Farmingdale on Long Island, and provides on-campus housing for undergraduate and graduate students. The third campus, the Westchester Graduate Center, is located in Hawthorne, New York, and serves scientists, engineers, managers, and others working in high-technology companies in the lower Hudson Valley, southern Connecticut, and northern New Jersey. Additionally, the university offers several management of technology programs at New York Information Technology Center, located at 55 Broad Street, in the heart of Manhattan’s high-technology and financial district.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Undergraduate Polytechnic students receive a rigorous education in engineering, the sciences, and management. An innovative core curriculum is designed to introduce students to engineering in the freshman year, and emphasizes projects that require a multidisciplinary approach.
Polytechnic’s graduate division has a strong reputation. In 1998, U.S. News & World Report ranked Polytechnic’s doctoral program in polymers among the top 10 in the nation. The electrical engineering doctoral program has been rated in the nation’s top 10 by the American Society of Engineering Education. Polytechnic is among the nation’s most successful institutions in producing science and engineering graduates who go on to earn their PhD. Many of Polytechnic’s research programs and centers are recognized internationally for their contributions to science and technology, including the Transportation Research Institute; the Urban Infrastructure Institute; the Institute for Technology and Enterprise; the Polymer Research Institute, founded by Dr. Herman F. Mark, known as the “Father of Polymer Science”; and the Institute for Mathematics and Advanced Supercomputing, directed by the acclaimed mathematicians, brothers David and Gregory Chudnovsky.
