CAMPUS SUMMARY
Mount Saint Mary College is an independent, co-educational liberal arts institution, located in Newburgh, New York, the heart of the scenic Hudson River Valley region. Founded by the Dominican Sisters, the college remains dedicated to a Judeo-Christian tradition. The college’s mission is to form a vital academic community where members view learning as a lifelong process. Mount Saint Mary College is ideally located in Orange County, New York. New York City is 60 miles south of the campus, while the state’s capital, Albany, is 90 miles north. The United States Military Academy at West Point is 12 miles from the Mount’s campus, and numerous attractions and recreational opportunities exist in the region. The 66-acre Mount Saint Mary College campus includes 25 apartment-style residence halls, a modern athletic facility, a variety of academic guiding, a fully automated college library, computer laboratories, a “cyber-café”, a campus elementary school, a 1,114-seat theater, and a recently renovated student center. A broad spectrum of regional, community and national resources are also used to provide opportunities for students outside the classroom.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
At Mount Saint Mary College, the curriculum aims to educate the whole person, emphasizing a liberal arts education in all its undergraduate programs, including those with an explicit career orientation. Undergraduates may choose from more than 47 academic programs. A teacher certification program prepares students to teach elementary, secondary or special education. In addition to formal coursework, Mount Saint Mary College enhances students' learning opportunities through regulated independent studies and internships. Cooperative education provides opportunities for students to combine classroom learning with practical work experience. Study abroad opportunities as well as a comprehensive honors program provide enriched learning experiences for Mount students. Mount Saint Mary College has recently introduced its first “Smart Classrooms” (16 online by the Fall of 1999) to smashing review by both the students and faculty. These classrooms have been designed to utilize the most modern technology in the presenting of instructional material. All instructors have available to them a laptop computer that can be used to develop their lecture presentations using programs such as core’s Presentations. Also available to the instructor are the capabilities to project materials on a large screen using ELMO (which replaces a conventional overhead and/or opaque projector and converts the image to digital form), and a professional quality VCR and DVD system that takes advantage of a sensor-round system. Along with being used for instructional purpose these rooms are used to show student films, for entertainment, and for closed circuit projections of college events.
