2007-2008 APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

Application Instructions


Please fill out this online application as thoroughly as possible. When you are finished, click the 'SUBMIT' button on the left column of any application screen.

Print the application agreement statement that appears after you submit the application. Sign and mail it with the required nonrefundable $25 application fee to the address below.

Application Fee
The $40 application fee is due with your application agreement statement. Please write your name, Social Security number, and confirmation number on the check or money order and make payable to Mills College. If your family has limited assets and income of less than $12,000 per year, you may request for a fee waiver. A letter stating these conditions and signed by your parents (unless you are a resumer) should accompany your application agreement statement. Without such a letter or the application fee, the admission committee will not review your application.

Application Deadlines
Priority consideration for financial aid and merit scholarships is given if you complete this online application and financial aid applications by the following deadlines for fall entrance, regular decision:
  • February 1: First-year students
  • March 2: Transfer students who are California residents
  • April 1: Out-of-state transfer students
A nonbinding Early Action program is offered to first-year students who wish to receive an admission decision in late December. The deadline for a completed application is November 15.

For admission to the spring semester the application deadline for all students is November 1.

Applications received will be acknowledged in writing. Notification of admission decisions will be sent in late March for fall entrance; early December for spring entrance.

First-Year Students
Required academic credentials:
Transfer Students
Students who have completed at least one semester of full-time college coursework after high school are considered transfer candidates. Applications are accepted for both the fall and spring semesters.
Required academic credentials:
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended
  • Official high school transcript, grades 9-12, with graduation date
  • Two Teacher Recommendation letters from college instructors
  • Official SAT I or ACT results are required of students who have completed fewer than 24 transferable semester hours
Resumer Students
Women 23 years of age or older who have delayed entrance to college or wish to resume work toward the Bachelor of Arts degree are considered resumers. Resumers who have completed coursework at another college apply for transfer admission.

Resumers who have no previous college experience apply for first-year admission and should contact the Mills Office of Admission to speak with an admission counselor.

NetWork Students
Women who have completed two years of college-level classes and are working full time may complete their BA degree in Mill's evening NetWork Program.

Resumers and NetWork students who have not been enrolled in college within the last two years may submit one Recommendation letter from an employer instead of two academic recommendations.

All Students
All students are required to have either a high school diploma or the GED. High school proficiency diplomas are not acceptable. Official secondary school transcripts must be submitted by all students. Transcripts or examination results are considered official only if they are sent to Mills by the issuing institution.

Visiting Students
A student may, by mutual institutional agreement, take courses at Mills as a visiting student to complete the coursework necessary to obtain a degree from her home institution. Academic credentials required are the same as for transfer students, plus one letter from the home institution indicating the coursework undertaken at Mills will be accepted by the home institution for degree credit.

International Students
International students applying from international schools or U.S. secondary schools must submit the appropriate credentials outlined for first-year students or transfers. In addition, the official results of all school-leaving examinations is required of all international transfer students. Those who are non-native English speakers must also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have their official score report sent to Mills. A minimum score of 550 is required for regular admission. School records in other languages must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

International students must submit a certification of finances form and a bank statement showing a minimum support of $35,000 for the 2003-2004 academic year.

Interview/Campus Visits
We strongly recommend that you schedule an on-campus admission interview. It is the best possible way to discover what Mills is really like, and to get all your questions answered. Please call (800) 87-MILLS (or (510) 430-2135 for international students) or write to the Office of Admission to request an interview and a campus tour.

You may wish to attend one of our campus programs:
  • Overnight Program on November 4-5, November 11-12, 2002, or January 30-31, 2003
  • Transfer Program on November 16, 2002 or February 12, 2003
If these dates are not convenient, an individual visit can be arranged for which overnight accommodations are available. If you cannot visit Mills, off-campus interviews can be arranged with alumnae around the country and the world.

    How to Use the Mills College Online Application

    To complete the online application, simply type your answers in the corresponding fields or select your answers from the popup lists (where applicable).

    After you complete a screen, click the NEXT button at the bottom or on one of the sections listed on the left column to move to a different screen. Before you are allowed to jump screens, we will inspect your data on the current screen for errors or inconsistencies. If errors or omissions are found, you will be returned to the screen to correct your answer(s). Otherwise, your data will be saved and you will proceed to the requested screen. We also allow you to skip to another screen without your new data being saved. Be aware that if you use the Skip & Jump function on the left column, data on the current screen will not be saved and will have to be re-entered prior to submittal.

    Once you have completed the application, click the 'SUBMIT' button located on the left column to submit the application.
